MSF Makes

Our challenge was to create an accessible platform for grassroots innovators within the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) community to share ideas and tools. In response, we developed MSF Makes—a printed magazine and a lightweight digital platform where staff can share their innovations in the form of recipes. Each recipe includes step-by-step instructions, a list of essential equipment, and required skills.

To enhance engagement, each recipe is accompanied by additional features such as image galleries from staff who have recreated the project, author biographies, and sections for relevant case studies.

This project was informed by in-depth field research conducted by Hetco Design, during which the team identified both the content needs and preferred access methods of the community. A printed magazine emerged as the ideal format for the pilot issue, given the region's inconsistent internet connectivity.
